James C. Monaghan, Jr.

James Carl Monaghan, Jr., 69, of Annapolis, died suddenly at Laurel Regional Hospital on Friday, September 14th.

He was born on September 29, 1942 in Baltimore and raised in Riviera Beach and has been a resident of Annapolis for the past 50 years.

He married Marlene Miller Monaghan on May 4, 1963.

Jim was ordained a Deacon in the Catholic Church in 1979. He considered it a privilege to follow his faith and serve the community for 33 years. He currently served as Pastoral Associate at St. Andrew by the Bay Catholic Church.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, an avid fisherman and a skilled craftsman in woodworking. Jim was also a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, friend and mentor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vera and James Carl Monaghan, Sr.

Jim is survived by his wife Marlene Monaghan, children; Michele and Kamran Amini, Kelly and Larry Shipman and Eric and Peg Monaghan, grandchildren; Ryan, Haley, Andrew, Karl, Joseph and Cassy, great-granddaughter; Jocelyn, sister; Martha Monaghan and brother; Patrick Monaghan.

Friends may visit at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home on Thursday, September 20th, from 2-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Andrew by the Bay Catholic Church on Friday, September 21st, at 11am. A Reception will follow in the church hall.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew by the Bay Bereavement Ministry, 701 College Parkway, Annapolis, MD 21409.
