Helen S. Kraus, 89, a resident of Severna Park, died on September 29, 2012 at Crofton Care & Rehabilitation Center in Crofton.
She was born on March 4, 1923 in Bower’s Hill, VA and was raised in Bower’s Hill and Newport News, VA. She graduated from Hampton High School in Hampton, VA and married Charles G. Kraus on December 31, 1958.
Helen was employed with DCSLOG Supply Division in Fort Meade, until her retirement. She was a member of the Society of the 28th Division, A.E.F., and Past Auxiliary President 1982-1984; member of Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge; Whitehurst Club; Elks and Moose Clubs of Glen Burnie; member of the Civilian Welfare Council, Fort Meade, MD, 1947-1984, and St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, Jim Beam Club, dancing, polka contests, playing the organ, and boating.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Charles G. Kraus. She is survived by her son, Charles G. Kraus, II of Greenville, TN; one grandaughter, Heather Kraus of Wyoming; four nephews, Frank J. Shemenski of Derwood, MD, Johnny Shemenski of Ocean City, MD, John W. Shemenski of Newport News, VA and Charles Azzinaro of PA; and two nieces, Louise Madej of Baltimore and Rosanne Azzinaro Cardwell of PA. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the nurses and staff at Morningside House of Friendship Assisted Living, Crofton Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center, and the Hospice of the Chesapeake for their kind and compassionate care given to Helen during her long illness.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at 10:00 am at Barranco & Sons, P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home, 495 Ritchie Hwy, Severna Park, MD 21146. Interment will be in Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, MD.
