Kenneth Hartman, Jr. of Severna Park died on December 4, 2012 at Anne Arundel Medical Center with his family by his side.
Kenny was born on July 28, 1959 in Camden, NJ and was raised in Joppatowne, MD. He also lived for a period in Orlando, FL and Oakland, MD. He graduated from Joppatowne High school and went on to graduate from Clemson University with his Bachelor’s degree. From 1982-2000 Kenny worked for Walt Disney World before finding his true passion in life when he became Chief of Visitor Services at the Maryland State Park Service in 2000. He last served as the Manager of Sandy Point State Park. Kenny was a dedicated leader who was service oriented. He was committed to the concept of Children in Nature which led to the vision and development of the new Nature Center at Sandy Point. He reached into the neighborhood schools by bringing the Junior Ranger program to students and having rangers read to students on Dr. Seuss Day. Kenny always put others before himself and was determined to help others have the opportunities they needed to reach their full potential. His ability to use his sense of humor and people skills made him endearing to most he encountered.
He loved to spend his free time camping, gardening, bowling, biking and hiking.
Kenneth was the beloved partner of Richard Benfer, of Severna Park, MD. He was the son of Kenneth Hartman, Sr. and Patsy A. Hartman of Joppa, MD; brother of Larraine Tompkins of Belcamp, MD and Richard Hartman of Chesapeake, VA.
Friends may visit on Friday December 7, 2012 from 3-5 & 7-9:00pm at the Barranco & Sons,P.A. Severna Park Funeral Home 495 Ritchie Highway Severna Park, MD 21146. Services and Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kenny’s name to the Friends of Maryland State Forests and Parks, Inc. Checks can be mailed in c/o Treasurer Wendell Jones, 1172 Latrobe Drive, Annapolis MD 21409.
